The importance of environment for GAIAM

Sustainable ideas and PEFC

GAIAM sources its 30% post-consumer waste paper from a sustainable forest managed by the Program for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC). Their catalogs are 100% recyclable anywhere magazines are accepted for recycling. By using nonvirgin fibers in their catalogs, the company saved nearly 50,000 trees and 9 million pounds of greenhouse gases.

In addition to that, GAIAM uses 100% recyclable and biodegradable eco-conscious packaging for all media. Designed to make the smallest environmental footprint possible, the lightweight, tough and resilient packaging is made from 100% post-consumer waste and is printed with soy-based ink.

GAIAM is committed to zero-waste standards at their corporate office, adding composting collection to an already robust recycling program that includes materials not collected in most businesses. GAIAM reuses shipping containers and use biodegradable packing at their distribution center, and provide opportunity for employees to join off-site stream cleanups and Habitat for Humanity projects.
